THE NORTH FACE, Williamsburg, NYC

The North Face, Williamsburg NYC store dubbed “Prototype”, was created as a off mountain focused store selling a variety of special product. This was a great opportunity to make a unique store that we can test and question the standards that we create with in a larger corporate system.

The space needed to be converted from a restaurant to a retail space that fit with in our design thinking.

There was a need to design a new fixture package that was not necessarily focused around high volume but instead highlighting individual items. There where many iterations before the final cohesive design and material pallet was finalized. We worked closely with the fixture vendor to create simplistic and clean fixtures that would not over shadow the product and the space.

There was much talk over how to best design a space in a city environment and not stray from our outdoor heritage. The store needed to bridge the gap towards a more high end retail experience, without trying too hard to be something it is not. We refined the space and embraced the long rectangular shape and refined the fixture package to allow for good site lines throughout the store.
